Peter J. Preston, 94, died peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Peter was born in Melbourne, Australia on June 1, 1930, to the late Joseph K. and Alice Morrissey Preston. When Peter was sixteen, the Preston family patriated to Springfield, MA from Melbourne. Peter graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with B.S. degree and earned his Master of Science Degree from the University of Virginia. In 1959, Peter became a Certified Professional Engineer in Virginia. He retired as a Chemical Engineer from American Cynamid and subsequently from Kemira in 1997.

Peter enjoyed skiing, tennis, traveling, woodworking, and reading scientific articles.

In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by first wife, Jane Bushey Preston; a brother, Craig A. Preston; sister-in-law, Barbara Preston; sister, Ann Ryder; stepdaughter, Nancy Gluvna Hanson; and a step-grandson, Jason M. Andrews. Also, brothers-in-law, John A. Olivier, Ronald Bushey, G. Richard Olivier, M. David McNulty, and Gary Fearn; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Gluvna.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Marceline Olivier Preston of Savannah; son, Joseph C.  Preston (Rebecca) of Louisville, TN; daughter, Susan Preston Oleniacz (Joseph) of Durham, NC; stepdaughters, Anne Marie Andrews (John) of Savannah and Kathleen Gluvna lsett of West Hills, CA; stepson, Michael Gluvna (Carmen) of Ocala, FL; sisters-in-law, Lee Bushey of Wyndham, NH, Wanda Olivier of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Kathleen Olivier McNulty of Indianapolis, IN; and brother-in-law, Joseph L. Olivier (Elaine) of N. Royalton, OH. Peter is also survived by ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. A Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Patrick O’Brien officiating. The burial will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
